This past Monday, June 27, we had the privilege of filming two 30 minute TV shows with Carlos Mackey. Mr. Mackey is the award winning host of “Best of Sports World” on our local ZNS tv channel and always talks about the 4 D’s to success, “Drive, Determination, Dedication and Discipline” when he speaks of sports and how it impacts our youth. When Mr. Mackey heard about New Oriental Cleaners celebrating our 50thyear of service to The Bahamas, his first reaction was that we must possess the 4 D’s if we’ve been in business for 50 years!
The first show will focus on how we got started and some of our original employees gave their descriptions or the early days. Mr. Lee spoke about how he and his brother, Vernal Lee, decided to get into the dry cleaning business. Lana Lee-Brogdon spoke about what it was like to come home and help her father out, Mrs. Lorelda Burrows (retired) and Isadora Lamm (Training Manager) spoke of their memories about how things were in the beginning. I can tell you that 30 minutes goes real fast and is not nearly enough time to talk about the history of a 50 year old company!
The second show will focus on our employees. Over the years, New Oriental has always had the business mindset that you put employees and customers first! So in this episode, Mr. Mackey interviewed Mr. Kermit Moultrie (Quality Assurance Manager), Veronica Mackey (Inspection Manager Mackey St.), Vernita Cleare (CSR Supervisor), Emily Dames (CSR Supervisor), and Ruby Knowles (General Manager) and Chrystal Moultrie (General Manager). Each one talks about their experiences and what makes them excel.
Late July or the first few days of August will see the first show being aired, just before our 50thBirthday on August 6th, 2011! So tune into ZNS to watch.
